Canopy gear is the most economical type of gearing and whilst its ease of operation give a nice easy to open door these doors can not be automated to a satisfactory safety standard.

The door panel is lifted by a cable attached to the spindle that is located about 1 third of the way up the side of the panel. Different manufacturers have used different springing methods and therefore the best way to identify if your existing door is a canopy door is to inspect the door when fully open. If about 1 third of the door protrudes outside the garage then it is a canopy.
