Retractable gear has been the long lasting traditional way of lifting a door that is to be or may in the future be automated. Slightly more expensive in the initial purchase retractable gear tends to need less repairs in in life span.
The door panel is lifted by an arm each side of the panel, spring mounted to the frame jamd counterbalance and provide the lift. These arms protrude into the opening and therfore cut down the eventual drive through width. Care should be taken that either a space saving retractable gear is used on single doors.
